This is an "estate wine" that far out-classes its name. Picked from the "Zuckerberg" plot of vines on the Niedermenniger Herrenberg, harvested early to catch maximum freshness and vitality, it combines cool marine character and a touch of creaminess with a firm, lip-smacking finish. Incredible quality at the entry level.
Off dry with delicious fruit flavors of peach and apriocots meld together in this classic example of Mosel Riesling.
J&H Selbach is the proprietary brand for the regional wines of Johannes Selbach. Johannes uses his long-standing relationships with growers around the Mittelmosel to source quality grapes for these cuvees. Though many Piesporters and Bernkastelers of dubious quality are available in the market, Johannes and his team work hard to ensure a level of quality and continuity from vintage to vintage, while keeping these wines inexpensive and serving as a great.
This wine is made exclusively from the famed Bockstein vineyard which is a VDP Grosse Lage®. VDP. Grosse Lage® is the designation for the very best German vineyards (equivalent of the Burgundian “Grand Cru”). The sites are precisely demarcated vineyard parcels. It is here that the best wines ripen, wines that express a unique vineyard origin and possess exceptional aging potential.
This perennially outstanding wine is an especially slatey rendition. What was always a wacky fun wine became quite a bit more lovely and serious when Johannes began introducing more sponti and fuder casks into the assemblage.
